A brief introduction...

Nicci

Registering for my first workshop of shamanism there was also the possibility of making my own drum.
This didn't seem right for me; not that I wouldn't like to make one, but simply because I didn't have the feeling that I would be using a drum

all that much... until the moment that my drum spirit stood in front of me while taking a shower.
This changed my decision and making shamandrums has become a passion. The drums and their materials have become my teachers, and give me the opportunity to work outside and connect with nature. And moving to the UK definitely added some more magic. . .

yes it all went a bit weird at an early age. i was obsessed at the age of 4 with drumming. i would get various pots and pans, boxes and my sisters bicycle and bang away on them in the garage.

my dad was a very successfull musician who had his own band and did various gigs . he played the piano and had a great musical understanding and memory. he could hear a song once and be able to play it on the piano.

he did not aknowledge my interest in rythm really and insisted  YOU MUST PLAY NOTES. hmmm.               i forgive you dad.

the years went by and i played here and there like the cadet band but got kicked out because i was too short.. hmmm

when i was 16 i bought  a little bambooflute. it was the beginning.

i started off wrong for a start as i held it to the left so had to learn all over again when i got my first concert pitch flute as you can only hold it to the right.

years went by and i played and jammed and did small gigs but soon realized i was actually quite crap.

then it happened... i was sitting next to the sea and found a bit of bamboo. i had a little pen knife on a key ring and thought this little piece of bamboo would make a nice flute. i had absolutly no knowledge of flute making but proceeded to cut little holes  and when that was done i started to carve patterns in it.

it played very well and all the notes were in key. it was a sign.

the journy had begun

i gave it to my mom and she carried it around in her handbag till the day she died. she was well proud of it and made me play it to any friend who happend to be visiting. i always played auld lang sine. it was a sign. ha ha

soon i was producing lots of different types of flutes but with not much know how. i had started a trade as i machinist and combining my newly accquired knowledge of the lathe and milling machine with flute making it started to happen.

i have finally let go of making music on a flute and just love making them instead. someone has got to do it.  hmmm   but if you want to jam a 12 bar in E would be right down my ally.

i am currently experimenting with producing new wind instruments and hope to create a new sound.
